Do you want to use the tools offline? Read first
The tools themselves work offline once the page has been opened. The instrument recordings are a separate download of about 10 MB, and a few conditions have to be met for it. If you only want the app icon, you can skip this.
Once a page has been opened, the tools themselves, the synthesised Marimba and the metronome sounds always work offline. Only the piano, harp and string recordings are a separate download of about 10 MB.
If you install the app recommended
- Use a browser that is allowed to do this. On iPhone and iPad that is Safari only — no other browser there may store anything offline. On Android and Windows use Chrome or Edge, on Mac Safari or Chrome.
- Check that the address starts with
https://. Without a secure connection browsers switch offline storage off entirely. - Install it with the steps below, so it gets its own icon.
- Open that icon once while you still have internet and leave it open for a minute. It downloads every sound by itself — you do not have to press any button. A short message confirms when it has finished.
On iPhone and iPad the last step cannot be skipped. What Safari has already stored does not carry over into the installed app, so the download has to happen inside the app itself.
If you would rather not install anything
Then save the recordings here instead. This covers this browser on this device only — an installed app would still fetch its own copy.
Technical details
iPhone & iPad Safari
- Open openmusicpracticetools.com in Safari (installing from Safari is required on iOS — other browsers can't add it to your Home Screen).
- Tap the Share icon (the square with an arrow pointing up) in the toolbar.
- Scroll down the share sheet and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Confirm the name and tap Add in the top-right corner.
The app icon now appears on your Home Screen and opens full-screen, like a native app.
Android Chrome
- Open openmusicpracticetools.com in Chrome.
- Chrome often shows an Install app banner automatically — tap it and confirm.
- If you don't see a banner, tap the ⋮ menu (top-right) and choose Install app (or Add to Home screen on older versions).
- Confirm to add the icon to your home screen and app drawer.
Other Android browsers (Edge, Samsung Internet, Firefox) offer a similar option, usually named "Install" or "Add to Home screen" in their menu.
Windows Chrome / Edge
- Open openmusicpracticetools.com in Chrome or Edge.
- Look for the small install icon (a monitor with a down arrow, or a "+" in a circle) at the right end of the address bar, and click it.
- If it isn't visible, open the browser menu instead: in Edge, Apps → Install this site as an app; in Chrome, ⋮ menu → Cast, save and share → Install page as app.
- Confirm Install.
The app opens in its own window with a taskbar and Start menu icon, separate from your regular browser tabs.
Mac Safari / Chrome
- Safari (macOS Sonoma or newer): open the site, then choose File → Add to Dock… in the menu bar and confirm.
- Chrome or Edge: open the site, click the install icon in the address bar (or ⋮ menu → Save and share → Install page as app), and confirm.
The app then launches from Launchpad or the Dock in its own window, without Safari's or Chrome's browser interface.
Removing the app later
On iPhone/iPad, press and hold the icon and choose Remove App. On Android, long-press the icon and choose Uninstall. On Windows and Mac, open the app, click its menu, and choose Uninstall (or remove it from chrome://apps / edge://apps). This only removes the shortcut and offline cache — nothing is ever stored about you on a server.
